About Us

About us

TDR Heritage is an independent historic environment consultancy, working nationally, with offices in the East Midlands and West Midlands.

We differ from many other small heritage consultancies because our individual Partners are well qualified in both archaeology and building conservation, with additional specialisms in history and illustration. Collectively we have over 30 years of experience as practitioners in the heritage sector in a variety of roles.

We offer a service covering the conservation and management of both the urban and rural historic environment, and we have worked extensively in both the private and public sector.

Our experience

Our Partners have substantial experience of working in proactive and reactive management of the historic environment, and come from a solid background in archaeology and historic building conservation, reinforced by higher level qualifications in history and illustration.

We have a wide-ranging background in the public and private sector, including providing Local Planning Authorities with archaeological and building conservation advice on the implications of development on the full range of designated and undesignated heritage assets - historic buildings, archaeology and landscapes. We have expertise in assessing Significance, Need and Impact and in developing Conservation Management Plans for the future management of assets, assisting with the development of schemes for new uses in historic buildings, advising on risk, condition, maintenance and management, and coordinating and negotiating with Historic England and others for appropriate reuse, repairs and alterations.

In addition, we have worked on a variety of projects including Historic Environment Record (HER) enhancement projects, aerial photographic interpretation and Historic Area Appraisals - Conservation Area Appraisals, Extensive Urban Survey and Historic Landscape Characterisation.

We have a particular strength in heritage grants, including with the Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic England. To date we have been involved in a number of successful grant projects, and we have direct experience of reviewing the eligibility of clients proposals for funding, making successful applications, delivering projects on the ground and evaluating the results.

Our Accreditation

Our principal consultant, Victoria Hunns, is a full member of the Institute for Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) and the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA). Victoria served on the CIfA Council for 6 years from 2006-11 and is now the Honorary Chair of CIfA.

TDR Heritage is also a recognised Historic Environment Service Provider (HESPR). HESPR is a UK-wide listing of quality-assured bodies that work to the conservation standards of the IHBC.  HESPR listed businesses assure quality and standards by using IHBC accredited lead professionals who are focused on service.
